What is a Projector Mount?
A Projector Mount is a bracket or shelf normally made of aluminum or steel and used to fix a video or computer projector to a wall or ceiling such that the projected image is displayed in appropriate dimensions and distance from the viewers(s). Those which attach to a wall may be simply referred to as Projector Mount or as a Projector Wall Mount while those which attach to a celing are commonly referred to as a Projector Ceiling Mount.
Outside of a big corporate meeting room where a projector may be simply planted in the middle of a table and projected to one end of the table, finding an acceptable place for a projector can present a challenge because of the size and dimenstions of the room in which it is to be used and due to the presence of furniture and viewers using the furniture. A projected image must have adequate height and width to afford comfortable viewing by viewers, and the size of the image is determined, in part, by the distance between the projector and the surface onto which the image is being projected. A Projector Mount allows users to fix the projector in a given location on a wall or ceiling, usually elevated above furniture or similar obstacles to projection, so that the projection is permanently directed to the optimal surface for viewing.
As the projector itself is connected to one or more computers via the audio-visual cable, the computers containing the data to be projected can be moved or shifted from one user to another without moving the projector. A mounted projector connected to a computer may substitute for a HDTV or flat screen TV, taking up less space and providing a similar quality of image.
Projector Mounts come in a variety of dimensions to accommodate the most common sizes and dimensions of commercially available projectors, There are also Projector Mounts made specifically for certain models of projectors. Projector Mounts attach to the wall or ceiling using standard anchors and hardware similar to that used to mount a shelf to a wall, and the projector itself will attach to the plate, the main bed of the mount, using threaded screws. The dimensions and locations of the mounting holes in the base of the projector should be checked prior to selection of a Projector Mount to ensure optimal compatibility.
When selecting the appropriate place to install a Projector Mount, as well as checking the dimension and size of the projected image, proper ventilation should also be assured. In general, a Wall or Ceiling Projector Mount will provide a better environment for projector ventilation than a table top or similar ad-hoc projector placement as their is simply more space for air circulation around the unit.
