What is a Propane / Air standby system and how does it work?
A propane/air standby system is a backup or alternate fuel system for large users of natural gas, such as manufacturers who use gas for the production of their product by heating, melting, drying, etc. Other uses would be for schools, hospitals, hotels, dry cleaners, paint ovens, foundries, paper mills, food processors, and many more. The system has three basic components. The first is a propane storage tank which comes in sizes ranging from single 1,000 gallon capacity tanks, up to multiple 90,000 gallon capacity tanks. We normally suggest that our clients have between one to two weeks of backup supply on-hand to cover plant needs in case of extended curtailments, or delivery problems due to weather or force majors. Storage tanks are sized in 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 12, 18, 30, 60 and 90,000 gallon size capacities. The second component of the system is a vaporizer. Propane has a boiling point of minus forty-four degrees below zero. On extremely cold days the natural vaporization rate of liquid
