What is a roller inductor ?
A; An inductor (coil) that can be adjusted in infinitely small increments. Compare this to a coil with “taps”. That is an inductor that has a switch connected to it in various places. You might switch from 2.3 to 2.5 mH, but you do not have the option of setting it to 2.412 mH. That is why we often spend a lot more money for a roller inductor. Although some variable inductors may not actually use a roller, most hams use the term to describe any infinitely variable inductor that has a moving tap.
