What is a software package and what are its benefits and problems?

My 2 cents…well, a a software package is basically a software that instead of providing 1 solution (example in accounting – General Ledger ONLY), it actually provides more that can be used in conjunction with each other (inventory system, logistic system, asset tracking system). The benefits is that normally there won’t be any problem in communicating between them as they’re under the same platform. They may also be cheaper to implement. The problem might be is that since they’re a package, you can’t really customize them to your business needs. It’s take it or leave it or live with it. Furthermore, some software company may have a very strong 1 solution (inventory) but limited expertise in the other (asset). Cheers…
