A stereo headset is a headset that is capable of playing stereo sound. A headset will include earphones or headphones that go over or in the ear to deliver sound directly to the wearer. In some cases, the headsets may be multi-use devices as well, such as those designed for cell phones, which may include a microphone for having conversations. The stereo headset offers one major advantage over mono headsets and that has to deal with sound quality. While a good stereo headset may cost considerably more than a cheaper mono set, the difference is very noticeable. To understand the difference between a stereo headset and other types of headsets, it is first necessary to understand what stereo sound is. Stereo sound is basically is sound recorded simultaneously on two different channels, which are then fed to a system capable of differentiating those channels. A stereo headset has this capability. A stereo headset/headphones are simply a device that is used to listen to sound in a stereo format. Basically, a small speaker. When referred to a stereo "headset" normally means it has a function of hearing and speaking. In less technical terms, headphones with a microphone attached on one side. What's the difference between a "stereo" headphone and a regular or "mono" headphones you ask? Well, a stereo headphones sound is transferred through 2 different channels in the headset, one to each ear. This is possible when the device you're plugging the stereo headset to(for example: iPod, CD player, cell phone, etc) can produce that split into channels. Overall, it gives a better sound quality to whatever it is your listening to. Mono headphones are defined just in it's name. Mono=one. One channel means that all the sound is transferred to one ear piece, but can serve the same purpose. Stereo headsets can be found in mostly all general merchandise stores who have an electronic section, or some devices include stereo headphones in the packaging. They can vary in shapes, designs, and colors. It's mainly based off the consumers choice of preference and style. The most common types are shown below. There are different types of headphones structurally. The large circular headphones are made to seclude as much sound as possible to enhance the listening experience. Other people prefer in-ear head phones that simply do what they say, sit inside the ear. The bigger the headphones doesn't always mean they are the most expensive either. There are small versions  I've also included at the bottom. Prices can vary between $7.00 to $80.00 to even hundreds of US dollars! Hope this gave a clear understanding, and rock on!
