What is a teacup?

0

The words teacup, micro, tiny or mini are just terms used to describe a smaller than average toy breed dog. A toy breed dog is any dog less than 10 lbs. and the average Yorkie and Maltese weigh 6-7 lbs. at adult weight. There is no such dog classified as a teacup breed, it is not recognized by any kennel club and you will not see any show quality dogs that are that small.

“Teacup” is a term that has been thrown around so much with small breeds that it has become a household word. We have on occasion very small Chihuahuas, and that’s exactly what they are… small.
