Many hernias do not produce symptoms and can be kept reasonably flat with a girdle or similar garment. After careful consideration your surgeon has recommended you have an operation to repair your incisional hernia. Most ventral hernias are repaired under general anaesthesia. An incision is made over the bulge, the edges are brought together and stitched with strong permanent suture material.
