What is AB 939 – Construction & Demolition Waste?

0

The California Integrated Waste Management Act of 1989 (AB939) requires that each local jurisdiction in the state of California prepare, adopt and implement plans to divert 50% of discarded materials from the landfills by December 31, 2000. Each city faces fines if this diversion percentage is not reached annually. The City of Manhattan Beach believes that as much as 50% of the city’s waste stream may originate from construction and demolition jobs. Please read “C & D: Waste Management Plan” for more details. If you have further questions regarding AB 939 or Construction & Demolition Waste please contact the Public Works Department Waste Management Analyst, Anna Luke, at (310) 802-5363.
