What is Acanthamoeba Keratitis (AK)?
According to CDC, AK, a rare but potentially blinding infection of the cornea, is caused by a common organism, an ameba (Acanthamoeba) that is found in many places in the environment,, including water (e.g., tap water, swimming pools hot tubs and so on), soil, sewage systems, cooling towers, and heating/ventilation/air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
