Albany is a small town located in the midst of a large urban area, but the city has managed to maintain a strong identity and sense of community. Our city is easily reached by public transportation and by freeway, and once you are here, it is eminently walkable. Our commercial areas are “green” oriented and pedestrian friendly, plus we also have some of the best restaurants in the area. What is its biggest liability? We need more parking! What is the most important development project going on? One of our significant commercial streets, San Pablo Avenue, has recently seen a variety of mixed-use projects that have brought more housing to this commercial area. Currently in the planning stage for San Pablo Avenue is a proposed UC development on our southern border with Berkeley that is proposing to bring a Whole Foods grocery store, senior housing and retail.
