Zone and Category seating are recent introductions in the secondary ticket market that borrow entertainment trends from Europe. Both of the seating types are quite similar in their overall nature but a little different in their labeling. In both cases, people are not given endless lists of tickets in specific sections and rows. Instead, the venue itself is chopped geographically into various chunks according to some visual model. In Category Seating, the chunks concerned are common-sensical locales, such as Orchestra, Mezzanine, Loge, etc. In Zone Seating, the chunks concerned are randomly drawn and marked with varying creativity. Thus, Zones could be labeled as A, B, C or GOLD, SILVER, BRONZE or any such system of categorization. In this system, event-goers are given options to purchase seats based solely on their Zone and/or Category rather than more specific characteristics.
