What is an accent chair?

An accent chair is a chair that has been strategically placed in a room.  Its purpose is to provide additional seating.  These chairs come in almost every imaginable design.  They can be a simple, straight-back chair with arms, like a rocking chair, or a larger chair, like a chaise lounge (a chair with an extended area that allows you to be able to put your feet up).  The idea is to have your accent chair work in conjunction with the other furniture that is in your room in order to create a harmonious look while also giving the space an additional function or way in which it can be used.

There are 2 ways in which you can make use of an accent chair:

• You can place the chair in a position that will either compliment or accent both the colors and the textures of the larger pieces in your room.
• You can create an additional seating area within your room.

An important thing that you must keep in mind whenever you are using an accent chair within your room is that it must work harmoniously with the remainder of your room.  For this reason, you must make sure that the color, texture and overall design of the chair is in harmony with the other furniture and color schemes that you already have in that room.  After all, the chair’s main purpose is to expand the room’s function while still being an integral part of the room’s overall look.
