An Account executive is a salesperson. You will be responsible for making prospecting calls and cold calls to find clients. You are responsible for achieving a set quota of sales per month, or quarter. You will need to keep a daily log of who you called on, where they are in the buying cycle, and reasons why you lost a deal. You have to provide a "pipeline", a forecast of potential sales for the next week ( or month, or quarter ). You will need to be a good talker, a good listener, and good at establishing customer relationships. Finally, you need to be knowledgeable about the products/services your are selling, and how they compare to the competition.

Account executives for advertising agencies are salespeople who are assigned specific advertiser accounts for the purpose of optimization and client services. The account executives optimize the client's account and offer services from the agency that include marketing services, copywriting and graphics design to optimize the advertiser's campaigns. In some cases the account executives will be expected to handle the copywriting taks and in some cases the graphics design.
Research and industry experience are part of the arsenal of the account executive, which includes having a strong grasp of the client's product. The account executive should have some experience in the advertiser's vertical and understand the target audience. In addition to providing creative ideas to help target the right b2b or b2c audience, the account executive will help to improve the client's advertisements or work around the client's requests and needs.
