What is an appropriate tip for a delivery man (furniture, not pizza)?
Well, it would depend on how many were on the crew and how heavy the furniture was. About $20.00 is right for an average delivery, but if they were rude or damaged your furniture or your home, I would not tip them. I once tipped a crew of two and they seemed quite surprised – I guess no-one had tipped them before. As for a houseful of furniture, my hubby and I moved separately into our new home together and had the same movers for both moves, so the crew (of 6) already knew us. We gave them $90.00 dollars at the end of the second move and said ‘have lunch or us.’ I know for a fact that most household movers go on to move offices, etc., after the first household move of the day is over so their days can be quite long. A good lunch, courtesy of a customer, not only helps them through their day but hopefully helps create positive feelings when dealing with future customers.
