Equilibirum constant (k) is the value of the reaction quotient (Q) when the reaction has reached equilibrium (essentially the point at which everything is in balance).

When a reaction is at equilibrium(i.e. usually forward reaction proceeds at the same rate as that of backward reaction).This state is described by equilibrium constant K, Equilibrium constant measures the extent to which reactants are converted to products. Reactions that have higher equilibrium constants i.e. greater than 1 will almost go to completion. Reactions that have equilibrium constant between 0 to 1 will hardly go to completion. The equation for K can be written as shown below
