What is an example of verbal irony in Romeo and Juliet act 2?
I really love this story as it’s quite romantic. An example of verbal irony may be when Romeo says “Amen, amen! but come what sorrow can, It cannot countervail the exchange of joy That one short minute gives me in her sight: Do thou but close our hands with holy words, Then love-devouring death do what he dare; It is enough I may but call her mine.” He talks of his love for Juliet and how she will be his, but it turns out that she will never truly be his. Things are constantly doomed for their relationship from the start.
