What is an imprinting mutation?

0

I believe it has something to do with offspring attachment to parents early in life as a survival mechanism. In Evolutionary biology, most mutations are in fact harmful to organisms, however, sometimes “copy errors” may not be “errors” at all but a mutation brought about by the environment. For example, the frigid north made it so that only the bears with the thickest fat layers would survive to pass on those genes, however it goes beyond just natural selection. When only a specific set of genes survives to reproduce, it may lead to mutation, a beneficial one. Imprinting mutations are most common in bird species, due to the high prevalence of predators that prey on birds.
