What is an Independent Commercial Importer (ICI)?
An ICI is an independent commercial importer that is registered with EPA. An ICI is not the original vehicle manufacturer, but does have a contractual agreement with the original manufacturer to act as its authorized representative for the distribution of vehicles or engines into the U.S. market. ICIs act independently of the original manufacturer, but must follow the same emission requirements imposed on the manufacturers. All ICIs are located in the United States. 28.
