What is an isothermal operation?
An isothermal operation is one in which some changes take place (usually heat flow), but temperature stays constant. “Iso” means constant, or unchanging, and “thermal” is, of course, temperature. It is most frequently, if not exclusively, used in discussing ideal thermodynamic processes, usually involving gases (such as steam) as a working fluid. Another ideal operation is called adiabatic, where no heat enters or leaves a system.
