What is an RNA hairpin structure?

0

An RNA hairpin is an RNA double helix where the two RNA strands at one end join together via a small loop. An RNA hairpin is essentially an RNA stem-loop (see previous section) but the closed loop formed at the top of the helix is smaller. (In practice the distinction between hairpin and stemloop seems does not appear clear cut.
