What is an STR number? How do I use the coverage maps to get the atlas map for my property?
In order to use the map atlas, you must know two things: 1) the Section-Township-Range (STR) number for your property and 2) whether the map atlas covers your particular STR. Both requirements are explained at length below. 1) The Section-Township-Range (STR) Number Alachua county utilizes the Public Land Survey System, which divides the county up into Township squares, six-miles on each side. A Township number identifies the North-South location of a six-mile square while Range refers to the East-West position. The numbers are similar to longitude and latitutde. Both are needed to locate a specific six-mile square in the county. Each Township is further divided into one-mile squares, called Sections. To uniquely identify a particular Section in the county, you provide the full Section-Township-Range (STR) number.
