WHAT IS AN UGG BOOT?
Traditionally the term “ugg boot” refers to a style of Australian boot made with either sheepskin or lambskin. During World War I Australian Pilots wore a fleece lined “FUG” (flying ugly boot), and Australian farmers wore a type of ugg boot as early as the 1930’s to keep their feet warm. In the 1960’s the Australian Surfers would put on ugg boots to warm their feet after a day of riding the waves, and they were also enjoyed by many wearing them around the house during the winter time. WHERE THE TERM “UGG BOOT” ORIGINATED Because the term ugg is considered a generic term in Australia to describe a style of boot, it is so commonplace that it’s even found in the Australian dictionaries. Ugg boots are also known as “Ug” or Ugh” boots. The term UGG is a registered trademark in both Australia and the United States. It was first registered in Australia in 1965.
