What is Australias Biodiversity Conservation Strategy 2010-2020 Consultation Draft?
The consultation draft of Australia’s Biodiversity Conservation Strategy 2010-2020 has been developed collaboratively by all state and territory governments and the Australian Government, with advice from the CSIRO and the Bureau of Meteorology. The consultation draft has been developed to replace the National Strategy for the Conservation of Australia’s Biological Diversity, which was agreed in 1996. The role of the strategy is to set national directions for biodiversity conservation over the next decade, and to guide conservation activities by governments, business, Indigenous peoples, the community sector and individuals. The draft strategy seeks to outline a new and long-term approach to biodiversity conservation in our rapidly changing world. The strategy is overseen by the Natural Resource Management Ministerial Council (NRMMC). The NRMMC consists of the Australian/state/territory and New Zealand government ministers responsible for primary industries, natural resources, environm
