WHAT IS BIOMECHANICAL GAIT ANALYSIS?
Biomechanical gait analysis combines the expertise of a physical therapist with modern technology to help athletes prevent injuries and improve performance. Using Dartfish video software a physical therapist is able to record and scientifically analyze an athlete’s movements (gait analysis). The video analysis is done from head to toe and from several angles to observe all planes of movement. Movements speed, and joint angles are measured and assessed by the therapist. The therapist and athlete can view the running form via slow-motion or frame-by-frame play-back on a computer screen. With the information gathered in the analysis, a therapist will recommend appropriate gait modification strategies to change or improve gait for better performance. With a follow-up visit, before and after running form can also be observed side-by-side to determine if desired results are achieved.
