What is Breast Augmentation Surgery?
Breast augmentation (also known as mammoplasty enlargement, augmentation mammoplasty, breast enlargement, or a boob job) is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures for women. With the rise of sexual reassignment surgeries, it is also becoming more popular with male patients as well. Normally used to enlarge breasts, correct size, or reconstruct the breasts after cancer, beast augmentation involves the insertion of implants between the breast tissue and pectoral muscles of the patient. Although any number of materials can be used for these implants, the most common are saline or silicone-gel. Surgery usually lasts between 1-3 hours, and the patient is mobile and partially functional the next day. Depending on the exact nature of the procedure, patients typically require 7-10 days to recover from the initial breast augmentation surgery.
