What is Caller ID?
This feature allows you to know who is calling when the phone rings. While it is a tremendous screening device for selecting who you want to talk to, it is equally effective when you need to personalize your incoming calls. There are, however, occasions when the calling party’s number will not be displayed. The following are some exceptions: 1) When the Local Telephone Company where the call is coming from is incapable of passing the calling party’s number on. In this case the phone may say “NO ID” or “RES” for restricted. 2) When the calling party blocks the presentation of their number, “PRIVATE” or “NO ID” may appear on your phone. 3) When the call originates from a payphone or through an operator assisted call. 4) In some roaming environments. 5) When you’re not receiving a signal from a cell site that is caller ID capable.
Caller ID is a feature that enables you to see a listing of the phone number and sometimes name of the person or company who is trying to reach you. This gives you the option of answering the call or letting it go to voicemail. It is also great to see who called while you were out, even if they didn’t leave a message.
Caller ID allows you to see who’s calling before you answer the phone. After the first ring, information about your incoming call will automatically appears on your Caller ID screen. Note: • If you see “Private” or “P”, the caller may have blocked the display of their name and number by pressing *67 before placing the call. If you see “unknown name”, “unknown number”, “out of area” or “O”, the caller is in an area that does not support Caller ID. Not all phone companies support the Caller ID of callers from other companies. You may see the caller’s state and phone number, or just the phone number, if the other company does not support Caller ID. You need a Caller ID display telephone or an add-on display to see Caller ID.
Calling Number Delivery (CND), better known as Caller ID, is a telephone service intended for residential and small business customers. It allows the called Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) to receive a calling party’s directory number and the date and time of the call during the first 4 second silent interval in the ringing cycle.
