What is child hood eczema?
Hi. My son has eczema, treating it is a big learning curve. What your child wears and lies on can have a big impact – absolutely no manmade fibres next to his skin – dont lie him on the carpet or setee etc unless he’s on a cotton sheet (which is really hard when they start to crawl), dress him in cotton, use nonbio washing powders, dont put bubble bath in his bath, dont use perfumes yourself, vacuum regularly. If he scratches, put scratch mitts or socks on his hands. Try to keep the environment around him as chemical and perfume free as possilbe. Keep his skin moisturised with a simple moisturiser – aqueous cream, or oilatum cream. Theres also diet to consider – my son started showing signs of it when i started weaning him – maybe try soya or goats milk for a while, but dont do it without talking to your doctor. Its a long list and youll start to notice what irritates his skin, but you do get used to it. And the good news is most kids grow out of it.
