What Is Chronic Pelvic Pain (CPP)?
Chronic pelvic pain is a condition that is defined by pelvic pain that lasts for six or more months. Many women experience the initial pain as a symptom of another medical condition or an injury. Because of muscle, nerve and tissue changes that may occur during this time, a woman may suffer from pain after the source of it dissipates. The pain may not respond to conventional methods of treatment. Below are some of the conditions that may cause this: • Endometriois • Interstitial Cystitis • Pelvic Floor Myalgia • Vulvodynia Because of chronic pelvic pain, a woman may be unable to partake in physical activities, may be unable to function sexually, and/or may be unable to maintain normal social roles. As a result, depression often develops. Life revolves around feeling bad. To minimize suffering, she may isolate herself from loved ones because she doesn’t know how to explain what she feels. She may be unable to work. The pain is no longer a symptom, but a syndrome that dictates the course
