What Is Civics Day?
Civics Day was created by the Georgia General Assembly in 1997 to generate interest in elections and convey the importance of voting. How Does the Mock Election Work? The Civics Day Mock Election allows students in grades K-12 in all Georgia public, private and home schools to vote on issues that are important to them. Ballot questions are designed to facilitate discussion among students and promote critical thinking of current issues. In state-wide election years students also vote on state and federal officials. Teachers may select the elementary school (K-5) or middle/high school (6-12) ballot for their class. Who Sponsors Civics Day? The Office of Secretary of State is in its eighth year of sponsoring the program. When Is Civics Day? Civics Day resources are available via this site.
