What is Cocker Spaniel Rescue of New England, Inc.?
CSRNE is the only rescue organization servicing all six New England states by taking in abandoned, unwanted or abused cockers, providing medical treatment, and finding qualified homes for them. We receive over 600 calls a year to help homeless cockers. Why do cockers need to be rescued? Thousands upon thousands of cockers are bred each year for pet stores by puppy mills and backyard breeders. The American Kennel Club registered over 45,000 cocker spaniels in 2000, and this figure doesn’t count the vast number of dogs that were never registered. Cockers have become commonplace orphans in animal shelters and pounds. As a matter of fact, it is estimated that 25 to 30% of the canine population at shelters are abandoned, purebred dogs.
