What is Combined Humanities?
Combined Humanities is a compulsory ‘N’ and ‘O’ level subject which was introduced in 2001. The first batch to sit for the Combined Humanities was in 2002. Students must study Social Studies (50% of the Combined Humanities subject) together with an elective subject – History, Geography or Literature which will make up the other 50% of the Combined Humanities subject.
The Humanities emerged as a logical extension of scholasticism. According to the object, subject, and methodology of study, they are often identified or intersect with the social Sciences, while being opposed to the natural and abstract Sciences based on the criteria of the subject and method. In the Humanities, if accuracy is important, such as describing a historical event, then clarity of understanding is even more important.
