What Is “Consumer Grade ADSL?
In Ecomtel documentation, you will sometimes see the term “consumer grade ADSL”, this just means that we provide our ADSL services on a “best effort” basis. We do our best to maintain our own equipment in a fashion that will guarantee availability. However, we rely on our service providers to maintain the connections between our equipment and your ADSL devices, just as we rely on other service providers to provide connectivity between our servers and the Internet. As a consequence of our reliance on third-party suppliers, we cannot provide any meaningful service level agreements. Businesses looking to connect business-critical services through ADSL should look at suppliers such as Telstra who are responsible for every component of the service that they provide, and are prepared to offer SLAs guaranteeing availability.
