I work at a major U.S. ice cream plant. I actually take the ingredients out of our freezer, and bring them to the production line whenever we change to a different flavor of ice cream, and it says right on the box “eggless cookie dough”, so I know the cookie dough we dump into our cookie dough ice cream does not contain raw egg. We do use raw egg in our mix used to actually make some of our different flavors, but that runs through a pasteurizer first, so you never need to worry about salmonella when eating any flavor of ice cream with egg products. Our processing and production environment is strictly controlled, and we have an in-house laboratory that runs all kinds of tests on every batch of ice cream we make. If anyone were to get sick as a direct result of eating ice cream, it would most likely be caused by improper procedures wherever the ice cream was produced.
