What is Cowboy Action Shooting?
Cowboy Action Shooting is a multi-faceted shooting sport in which contestants compete with firearms typical of those used in the taming of the Old West era of 1865 to 1895: single action revolvers, pistol caliber lever action rifles and double barreled side by side, or pre-1899 pump or lever action shotguns. The shooting competition is staged in a unique, characterized, “Old West” style. Clothing attire and accoutrements that reflect this period of the American West are strongly encouraged. Courses of fire are shot in stages that change each month, fired on fixed or reactive steel targets. Scoring is based on accuracy and overall time used to shoot the stage.
