Custom Animation is a powerful and dynamic tool of Microsoft PowerPoint. It is a set of effects, which allows a user to determine how the objects of a slide appear during a slide show in PowerPoint. It is used to illustrate concepts or draw attention to a specific point. It is also applied on text, shapes, clip arts, charts, or photographs. Custom Animation effects are divided into four parts, which are as follows: • Entrance: These effects can be set to objects so that they enter with animations during the Slide Show. Custom Animation is a feature in Microsoft Office PowerPoint. It contains a list of effects that you can apply to objects to have them animate during the slide show. PowerPoint 2000 and earlier versions offer basic Entrance effects such as Appear, Dissolve and etc. It is to be noted that in PowerPoint 2000 and earlier versions, all objects can only be animated once. With the release of PowerPoint 2002/XP, more effects are introduced and are grouped into 4 categories. The 4 categories include: Entrance, Emphasis, Exit (The 3 E’s), and Motion Paths. Objects can now be animated multiple times and effects can be combined to create complex animations such as the Leaf Motion effect. Each effect contains variables such as start (On click, With previous, After previous), delay, speed, repeat and triggers.

It’s the way you animate the elements of your slide. Various objects or groups of objects can be made to do different things – fly in, blink, fade out… all that really obnoxious stuff. You control the order of the appearance and disappearance of your objects in “custom animation.” There are preset animations but I have never used them. It’s pretty easy to use, just remember that you can group objects and animate the groups just like an isolated object – makes things easier!
