WHAT IS DANGEROUS BLOOD PRESSURE READING?
High would be anything over 160/90, Dangerous over 170/95. However stress factors such as not sleeping and worrying, talking whilst recording being taken, exercise just before recording – all of these can consistently raise BP and give a falsely high reading. When recording your BP it is best to be in a relaxed state.
If the blood pressure is consistently 140 over 90 or higher over a number of weeks you would probably have high blood pressure. High blood pressure puts extra strain on the heart and blood vessels, over time this extra strain increases the risk of heart attack and stroke, it can also cause heart and kidney disease. A low blood pressure is having a level of 90 over 60, usually a low blood pressure does not cause any problems, however, it can drop to a point where the person may feel faint or dizzy.
