Not much difference, the essence of marriage is love and commitment. Those who assumed that marriages in the East are “arranged” are ignorant and did not travel to the East. “Arranged marriages” are prevalent in parts of India, but not all Indians have arranged marriages. The only difference is that marriages in the East tend to sustain much longer as average divorce rates in East Asian countries are below 5% compare to 50% divorce rates in USA and 43.5% in UK (2006). It is very rare to find any friends whose marriages ended in divorce. One reason for the low divorce rates could be that most couples get to know each other for long period of time (some of my friends got married after knowing the spouse for 7 to 10 years) before settling for marriages. Therefore average marriage age for men could be 32 while those of women could be 26-28.
