With the built-in microphone, you can record a movie with audio from 5 directions (front-left, front-center, front-right, rear-left and rear right) simultaneously. When you play back the movie with audio equipment which supports 5.1ch surround playback, you can enjoy realistic sound. Also, if you use the optional wireless microphone ECM-HW1, the sound it picks up is allocated to the front-center channel, and you can record even more realistic surround sound. Note: Your camcorder itself cannot output 5.1ch surround sound.
