WHAT IS DRAM?
DRAM stands for dynamic random access memory. DRAM is a type of memory component used to store information in a computer system. “Dynamic” means the DRAM needs a constantly repeated “refresh” (pulse of current through all of the memory cells) to keep the stored information. The memory is where the computer stores whatever information is needed for the work it is doing at a given time. Memory is often compared to a table, on which you have temporarily placed the tools and information you need to do your work. The memory holds whatever software and documents are in use. Like a table, the memory in your computer has a specific size and can only hold so many items. If you overfill the memory, your computer will work directly from your hard drive, which slows the rate at which your computer can work. Using our analogy, it would be like filling the table, so that you have to go to a drawer of filing cabinet every time you want to use a new tool or piece of information, which would obviously
