What is drive by wire?
Drive By Wire is used in some GEN II 3.8L V6 engines and some later model 5.7L V8 engines. Drive by wire refers to the fact that these engines have no throttle cable from the pedal to the throttle body. Instead they are electronically controlled by a sensor in the gas pedal that sends a signal via a wire to a motor that actually actuates the throttle plates to correspond to the amount the driver is depressing the gas pedal. To determine If your vehicle is drive by wire, look to verify that you have a throttle cable attached to the throttle body. This can further be verified by manually advancing the throttle and seeing if the gas pedal moves if it does then you do not have drive by wire.
