EBT stands for Electronic Benefits Transfer. With EBT, paper food stamp coupons or cash dispensed through checks are no longer used, instead, food stamp (SNAP) and cash (TANF) benefits are accessed through a plastic debit card called a Hoosier Works Card that is similar to an ATM and/or debit card. As you make purchases, or withdraw cash benefits, the balance in your account will decrease. Q: How do I sign up for EBT? A: You will not need to "sign up." Anyone who receives food stamp (SNAP) or cash (TANF) assistance will be issued a Hoosier Works Card automatically through the mail after being determined eligible. To activate the card you will choose a Personal Identification Number (PIN). Q: What is a PIN? A: A PIN is a four-digit number that you pick to access your benefits. It is important that you choose four numbers that are easy for you to remember but hard for someone else to guess.
