ECP is a non-surgical, non-pharmacological treatment for heart disease (blocked coronary arteries – CAD). This procedure is a very good modality for the treatment of chronic angina, heart attack and heart failure. During the ECP treatment, there is no need of hospitalization, this can be done as outpatient procedure. Larger cuffs like blood pressure cuffs are wrapped around the legs and buttocks, and squeezed and released in synchronized fashion with the heartbeat of patient, regulated minutely by computerized control, promoting blood flow throughout your body and particularly to the heart. In this process, ECP develops new pathways around blocked arteries in the heart by dilating the networks of “collaterals” (tiny blood vessels) that help in increase and normalize blood flow to the heart muscle. For this reason, it is often called the NATURAL BYPASS.
