Wholesale electricity prices are affected by the price of fuel used in the power stations, supply and demand, currency exchange rates, availability of transmission lines etc. NIE estimate their monthly fuel costs in advance and build these estimates into their published tariffs Each month an Energy Price Adjustment (EPA) is made by NIE to reflect changes in the price of ‘wholesale’ electricity in the all-island Single Electricity Market. The EPA charge is currently applied to all monthly billed Multi Rate Tariff customers. The adjustment is applied to all units of electricity for the month and is clearly visible on the bill. It can either be a credit or debit and thereby provides an element of protection for both parties from excessive, unexpected price movements. If you any further queries on this charge please contact our Customer Service Team at 0800 056 9914 or by email at info@esbie.
