What Is Equine Chiropractic?
“Animal Chiropractic” is as old as “Human Chiropractic”, and dates back to the early 1900’s. The basic chiropractic principles which apply to humans may be applied to animals in a similar manner. Animal Chiropractic deals with the musculo-skeletal system, primarily the spine, and the relationship of the spine with the nervous system. The bones of the spine and joints are maintained in a specific alignment, allowing the nerves which surround each joint and vertebral articulation to be in constant communication with the central nervous system, brain and organs. When even a subtle change in the alignment occurs, it is called a subluxation. Subluxations affect the nervous system, local muscles, joints and even distant organs, glands and body functions resulting in dysfunction of the nervous system. To correct the subluxation a chiropractic adjustment is used. A chiropractic adjustment is defined as a high velocity, low force adjustment with a specific line of correction aimed to correct jo
