What is financial aid?
Financial aid is money provided by federal, state, institutional and private sources to assist people who want to attend college. There are two types of financial aid. The first type is called merit or scholarship assistance. At CCA scholarships are available for students who have good grades, show academic potential or meet the qualifications for other private funds (financial need may be one of the criteria). Need-based or need-determined, is the second type of financial aid available at CCA.
Financial aid is funding for your college education that comes from sources outside of your family. Gift aid and self-help aid are two categories of financial aid. Gift aid comes in the form of grants and scholarships and does not have to be repaid. Self-help comes in the form of loans and employment. Financial aid at NSU is awarded to students based on financial need. A student may have a combination of grants, loans, scholarships and employment for a financial aid award.
Financial Aid, funds to supplement family and student resources, comes in four main types: • Merit scholarships, based on individual talent and achievement, are available from state, federal, and private programs, and usually do not require repayment; • Needbased scholarships, awarded on financial aid eligibility, come from the School of Nursing, state and federal funds and do not require repayment; • Loans, from state, federal and private programs. (must be repaid). • Teaching Assistantships and Graduate Research Assistantships awarded by the school (the free application for federal students aid is not required) are available on a limited basis.
Financial aid is money awarded to you to help pay educational costs. Financial aid is classified into three basic types: grants and scholarships are funds awarded as financial aid that are not required to be repaid; work study is on-campus work that you find on your own initiative; and a loan is money borrowed from the federal or state government, or an alternative lender that must be repaid, including interest. Financial aid is distributed according to a variety of eligibility criteria within two categories: • You are awarded need-based aid to make up the difference between your total cost to attend a college full time and the amount of your family’s contribution as determined by the federal government.
