What is grade inflation and what does it mean for students?
Grade inflation is where the average grade for any given class at a college is above a C. A C is technically supposed to be an average, but if all the students get B’s it’s not fair because they can’t all be exceptional. It basically means the grade averages are boosted so that a B is the new C. What does it mean for students? It gives them a false sense of accomplishment. A C grade tells them where they stand (average) but if they get all B’s and A’s …well it’s like the saying, You’re special just like everyone else.
