The responsibility for Commonwealth waste (such as ANSTO’s) is that of the Federal Government, while individual States are responsible for their own waste. Federally the Australian Government has announced it will site a facility in the Northern Territory for management of all Australian Government radioactive waste, and legislation to facilitate that has been passed by the Parliament.
