What is happening at the World Trade Centre site at the moment, and what will happen with it?
The site is currently being redeveloped and they’re building the Freedom Tower, which will be the tallest building in New York City when completed and the 5th tallest in the world at 1776 feet high. The height is symbolic because 1776 is the year the U.S. Declaration of Independence was signed. Three new high rise offices and a new residential tower will also be built on the complex, which will surround the World Trade Center memorial. At the memorial, there will be two large square pools that will represent the former twin towers and a waterfall will run along the walls of the pools. There will also be a museum and a place for people to view the names of the people who died. The buildings and memorial will be completed in 2011.
