What is immigrant intent?
This is especially important during the visa interview process at the U.S. Consulate. Essentially consulate posts, the INS and State Department use this doctrine in screening nonimmigrant visa applications. Immigrant intent essentially states that there is a presumption that a nonimmigrant visa applicant has an intent to immigrate to the U.S. and not return to his/her home country. The presumption then must be rebutted by the visa applicant to show that he/she still has strong ties to his/her home country and will return home after a brief stay or visit to the U.S.
