What is involved in maintaining my tank?
There are several things which need to be done to maintain a rainwater tank. • Install first-flush devices, screens and guards to stop debris and insects entering the tank. First-flush devices are essential for reducing the amount of sediment and other materials entering the tank and polluting the water. • Inspect gutters and roof catchment areas regularly and keep them clean and clear of leaves and debris. Keeping your rainwater flowing cleanly and quickly into your tank reduces the build up of sludge as well as the risk of mosquitos breeding in your tank. • Check for sludge in your tank at least every 2-3 years.
